Kiln Drying Lumber

Turn your green, wet lumber into stable, workable, and high-quality wood. Based right here in Kansas City, our professional kiln drying services remove excess moisture under strictly controlled conditions, preventing warping, twisting, and cracking so your lumber is ready for its final destination.

Why Kiln Dry Your Lumber?

Freshly sawn lumber contains a massive amount of water. Skipping the drying process—or relying solely on air drying—can ruin a project down the line.

  • Maximum Stability: Minimizes shrinking, warping, checking, and splitting once the wood is inside a climate-controlled environment.
  • Pest & Fungus Eradication: The high temperatures achieved in our kiln kill all life stages of wood-boring insects (like powderpost beetles), as well as mold and fungi.
  • Better Workability: Properly dried lumber planes smoother, glues tighter, and accepts stains, oils, and finishes beautifully.
  • Time Savings: What takes years to air-dry takes only days or weeks in our kiln.

The Process

Note: For the best results, lumber should be milled to a consistent thickness and "stickered" (spaced out) properly before or immediately upon arrival at our facility.
  1. Intake & Moisture Assessment: We test the initial moisture content (MC) of your lumber to map out a custom drying schedule.
  2. Controlled Drying: Your wood is loaded into our kiln, where temperature, airflow, and humidity are meticulously managed to extract moisture safely without stressing the wood.
  3. Sterilization Cycle: At the end of the run, we raise the temperature to ensure the core of the wood reaches the thermal threshold required to kill any hidden pests.
  4. Final Quality Check: We verify the core moisture content across multiple boards before clearing the load for pickup.
